Benito Fado, Chief Executive of Sunu Bank Togo

(Togo First) - Benito Fado brings more than 25 years of banking experience, including extensive expertise in the West African Economic and Monetary Union’s (WAEMU) regulatory framework. He has served as chief executive of Sunu Bank Togo since Jan. 2, 2024.

He began his career in the Risk Management and Credit Department at Continental Bank Benin, which later became UBA Benin. He then joined Ecobank, where he served as Corporate Banking Director at several subsidiaries before moving to Ecobank Development Corporation (EDC), the pan-African group’s investment banking and capital markets arm.

Fado later joined Sunu Bank Togo, formerly Banque Populaire pour l’Épargne et le Crédit, as deputy chief executive under then-Chief Executive Myriam Adotevi. He succeeded Adotevi as chief executive in January 2024 after she left to lead SUNU Investment Holding.

Since taking office, Fado has overseen the bank’s restructuring, strengthening corporate governance and compliance, recapitalizing the institution to meet Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) capital requirements, and accelerating its digital transformation. His tenure has also been marked by efforts to reinforce the bank’s financial position and improve operational efficiency as it seeks to strengthen its competitiveness in Togo’s banking sector.
