Togo Selected to Host NEISA 2027 Nuclear Summit

(Togo First) - Lomé will host the 2027 Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa (NEISA 2027), succeeding this year's edition in Kigali. The event will bring together leading policymakers, regulators, investors and industry experts to examine the future of nuclear energy development across the continent.

NEISA has become a key platform for discussions on Africa's energy transition, convening heads of state, government ministers, nuclear regulators, financiers and technical specialists. Participants will focus on policy frameworks, financing mechanisms and the deployment of emerging nuclear technologies, including small modular reactors (SMRs), as African countries seek to strengthen energy security and support long-term industrial development.

The 2027 summit in Lomé will review progress made on recommendations adopted at the 2026 gathering, which took place in Kigali last May under the theme, "Powering Africa's Future: Transforming Nuclear Energy Ambition into Investable Reality."

According to Togo's Ministry of Energy, the summit will build on the momentum generated in Kigali by advancing strategic partnerships, reinforcing regional regulatory cooperation and expanding training opportunities for young Africans in advanced nuclear technologies.

The announcement comes as Togo accelerates efforts to achieve universal access to electricity by 2030 while exploring options to diversify its energy mix, including the potential development of nuclear power.

The country has also increased its profile in international nuclear affairs. In September 2025, Togo was elected to the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for a five-year term, strengthening its voice in global nuclear policymaking.

Hosting NEISA 2027 is expected to further elevate Togo's role in shaping discussions on the future of nuclear energy in Africa at a time when many governments are exploring new sources of reliable, low-carbon electricity to meet growing demand and support economic transformation.
