Togo, Benin commit to strengthening trade and investment ties

(Togo First) - Togo and Benin have pledged to strengthen their commercial ties. The commitment was made on Wednesday in Lomé during talks between Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé and Benin's new head of state, Romuald Wadagni, who was visiting the Togolese capital as part of a regional tour.

The pledge followed a review of economic relations between the two countries, which both leaders said had seen steady growth in bilateral trade.

They said they would seek to expand trade and investment through improved transport and connectivity infrastructure, easier cross-border trade and greater economic integration.

The two leaders also stressed the need for regular political dialogue to support consultation, prevent disputes and promote peace, stability and mutual trust.

Togo and Benin share longstanding historical ties, including formal cooperation arrangements and extensive informal cross-border exchanges.
