Togo: French Institute launches new round of funding for cultural projects

(Togo First) - The French Institute of Togo has launched the 2026 edition of its "Instant Togo Résidence" grant programme, aimed at supporting artistic creation and the development of the country's cultural and creative industries.

Applications are open until June 28 for projects that must be completed by Nov. 15.

Selected projects will receive between 3,000 and 6,000 euros each, equivalent to roughly 1.97 million to 3.9 million CFA francs. Recipients will be required to secure additional funding, as the programme cannot cover more than 80% of a project's total budget. Priority will be given to projects that demonstrate economic viability and potential for regional distribution, particularly in Ghana and Benin.

The second edition builds on cultural support programmes implemented in recent years by France, the European Union and their partners in Togo. It receives support from the Création Africa 2025 initiative and aims to help Togolese cultural organisations develop artistic projects with a clear distribution strategy.

Since 2022, the Togo Créatif programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by the French Institute of Togo and the Goethe-Institut, has supported the professional development of cultural practitioners, skills development and the growth of creative enterprises.

Togo's cultural and creative industries generated more than 100 billion CFA francs in revenue in 2024, equivalent to roughly 1% of national GDP, according to a study.
