Lacs 1 introduces new standards for market stalls and shops

(Togo First) - The Lacs 1 municipality is stepping up oversight of market stalls, kiosks and other small commercial structures across its territory. Municipal authorities this week unveiled newly approved designs for stalls and shops in Aného.

The initiative forms part of a broader effort to improve sanitation and the urban environment. Traditional and religious authorities, community leaders, local development committees and representatives of associations took part in the awareness campaign.

Mayor Alexis Aquereburu said all new structures will have to comply with requirements covering appearance, safety and the use of public space. Covered stalls and shops will also be required to adopt a uniform white colour to create a more consistent look across commercial areas.

According to municipal authorities, the reform is intended to support urban development in Aného and neighbouring localities. It comes as local governments seek to better organise informal businesses and improve the management of public spaces.

Officials say the introduction of common standards for market stalls and shops will make commercial installations easier to monitor while improving the area's appeal. They added that the quality of the urban environment plays an important role in supporting local economic activity.

The municipality plans to continue informing residents about the new requirements to ensure their gradual adoption. Authorities say the objective is to create a more orderly urban environment aligned with the municipality's development plans.
