Togo begins census of social, solidarity economy sector

(Togo First) - Togo has launched a census of entities operating in the social and solidarity economy (SSE). The operation, led by the Ministry of Grassroots Development and the Social and Solidarity Economy, aims to map organizations active across the country.

The immediate objective is to build a database to improve understanding of the sector. Cooperatives, mutual societies, associations engaged in economic activities and community groups have been invited to complete a form available online.

According to the ministry, the data collected will help shape public policy, strengthen support programmes and identify the needs of organizations operating in the sector. The census will also provide a basis for future consultations between public authorities and SSE organizations on governance, financing and business development.

In Togo, the social and solidarity economy is active in agriculture, crafts, agri-food processing, services and inclusive finance. The sector contributes to income generation and economic inclusion, particularly among women and young people.
