Togo begins work on updated climate commitments

(Togo First) - Togo has begun revising its climate pledges under the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) framework. The initiative, launched last week by the Ministry of Environment, Forest Resources and Coastal Protection, is expected to result in an updated roadmap known as NDC 3.0.

NDCs are countries’ formal commitments under the Paris Agreement to curb greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. Togo’s updated plan will outline the targets it aims to meet by 2035.

The process includes reviewing several key documents, including reports on emissions reduction, climate adaptation and biodiversity-climate links. Authorities will also develop an action and investment plan to support the commitments.

The ministry said the revised NDCs are being developed through a collective, transparent and inclusive process. “The recommendations from this meeting will help build support among stakeholders and strengthen Togo’s future commitments,” it said.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the NDC Partnership are supporting the development of NDC 3.0, underscoring Togo’s efforts to strengthen its climate action while meeting its international commitments.
