Togo ramps up reforestation push under billion-tree plan

(Togo First) - Togo will once again hold its national reforestation campaign throughout June, with activities scheduled nationwide. The Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources officially launched the initiative on Monday, May 25, unveiling the campaign calendar for the coming weeks. The effort forms part of the country’s broader target of planting one billion trees by 2030.

The campaign will begin on June 1 and continue throughout the month, with authorities encouraging citizens to plant trees across the country. To strengthen public participation in what has become an annual tradition, the ministry also launched a nationwide awareness campaign on May 25 to highlight the importance of reforestation and mobilize communities.

The outreach effort will include a series of media appearances and public awareness programs involving regional and prefectural environment officials, nursery operators, and other forestry stakeholders. These participants will explain the importance of restoring forest cover and present the support measures put in place to facilitate local planting initiatives.

The ministry added that the communications campaign would also serve as an opportunity to review progress made under the national reforestation program over the past five years.

The initiative builds on Togo’s National Tree Day, observed every June 1 since 1977. Now extended across the entire month, the campaign aims to accelerate reforestation efforts by promoting tree planting beyond a single day of observance.
