Togo records a rise in number of LLCs created on year-to-year basis, spurred by reforms

(Togo First) - Data from the Centre for Companies formalities (CFE) shows that more than 361 LLCs were created in the first two months of this year. This is against 296 in Jan-Feb 2017.

In details, 224 LLCs were created in January 2018, against 198 the same month the year before. As for February, 137 were created in the first weeks of the month (against 98 during the whole month of February in 2017).

This rise is attributed to the many reforms implemented by the government to ease companies’ creation, a major one being the liberalization of minimum capital for LLCs. They also aim to make private sectors the economic growth driver, through the formalization of LLCs for example.

In regards to the latter, more than 1547 companies were formalized in the first two months of this year, against 1504 in January and February 2017. This a relatively weak increase (2%) which should improve before the month’s ending.

After moving from the 133rd to 127th place under the 2020 Doing Business’ construction permit index, Togo intends to reiterate this feat in the coming edition of the global ranking. To this end, it has introduced this year multiple reforms.

Indeed, after spending years in the lowest part of this ranking, the country now seeks to beat Rwanda which is the best performer on this index in Africa. To do so, Lomé has been introducing many reforms, with the latest batch implemented this year.
