Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty assesses risks perceived by Togolese companies, for first time

(Togo First) - Allianz risks barometer 2018 has been released and, for the first time, it assesses in order of importance, the risks that Togo-based companies fear for the ongoing year.

According to the document, companies of any sector or size across the world, mainly fear business disruptions, cyber incidents, and natural disasters in 2018.

In Togo, the top 3 risks perceived are fire and explosions (54%), political risks (50%, war and social conflicts for instance) and business disruptions, including risks of logistics chain break (39%). Natural disasters risk ranked 3rd in the world, is only 4th in Togo (31%).

According to companies probed in Togo, the other risks include, in descending order, legislative and regulatory developments (15%); cyber incidents (15%); theft, fraud, corruption (15%); climate change or increased volatility of weather conditions (12%); reputational or brand image damage (12%) and market developments (12%).

After moving from the 133rd to 127th place under the 2020 Doing Business’ construction permit index, Togo intends to reiterate this feat in the coming edition of the global ranking. To this end, it has introduced this year multiple reforms.

Out of all the 'Doing Business’ indicators, Property Registration is where Togo has improved the most since 2018. Indeed, after spending years in the lowest part of this ranking, the country now seeks to beat Rwanda which is the best performer on this index in Africa. To do so, Lomé has been introducing many reforms, with the latest batch implemented this year.
