CRT to Phase Out Cash Pension Payments Starting July 2026

(Togo First) - Togo’s pension agency CRT is continuing the digitalization of its services. Beginning with the July 2026 payment cycle, pensions will no longer be paid in cash at CRT payment counters. Retirees will instead receive their benefits through mobile money services or bank transfers.

The measure, announced by CRT Director General Justin Tchilabalo Pilanté, is part of efforts to modernize payment methods and improve services for pensioners.

According to the institution, the reform is intended to enhance payment security, reduce waiting lines and limit risks associated with handling cash. Under the new system, beneficiaries currently receiving cash payments will be transferred to the Mixx by Yas and Flooz mobile money platforms or to bank accounts.

To facilitate the transition, the CRT is asking pensioners to provide mobile money account details (RIT), bank account details (RIB), or other documentation confirming the account where payments will be deposited. The institution said that failure to update banking or telephone information could result in the suspension of pension payments starting in July.

In Togo, the move is part of broader efforts to digitalize public-sector payments. In recent years, mobile financial services have expanded rapidly, supported by wider telecommunications coverage and growing adoption of digital services. For public administrations, the shift to digital processes also helps improve transaction tracking, reduce management costs and facilitate access to services for users living outside major urban centers.
