(Togo First) - Togo will host more than 3,000 recent graduates and final-year students at an employment fair in Lomé on June 20, where they will meet around 50 companies.
The event is intended to serve as a platform connecting young talent with recruiters, with the aim of facilitating the transition into the labor market. It will give first-time job seekers an opportunity to showcase their skills to potential employers while learning more about workplace expectations and career prospects.
Addressing the skills gap
At a time when many graduates struggle to secure their first job, the initiative aims to help narrow the gap between academic training and the actual needs of businesses.
The fair will enable participants to gain a clearer understanding of the qualifications recruiters are looking for, identify fast-growing sectors, expand their professional networks and access opportunities for internships, employment or volunteer work. Workshops and discussion sessions are also planned to strengthen participants’ employability.
For companies, the event offers an opportunity to strengthen their employer brand, highlight career opportunities within their organizations, identify new talent and establish partnerships with educational institutions.
Supporting youth employment
Led by the Higher Institute of Languages and Business (ISLA), with support from The Education Collaborative, the initiative is part of the national drive to promote youth employment. It is expected to contribute to improving graduates’ entry into the workforce and support the Togolese authorities’ efforts to reduce unemployment.
In the longer term, the organizers hope that this type of event will foster closer alignment between the skills employers need and the skills job seekers offer, helping to make the labor market more efficient, enhance the country’s economic attractiveness and support growth.
