Land Restoration: FAO Opens Call for Proposals with Grants of Up to $50,000

(Togo First) - Togolese organizations involved in restoring degraded land and promoting sustainable natural resource management are eligible for funding of up to $50,000 under the AFR100 program, implemented by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The call for proposals has been launched through the Direct Beneficiary Grants scheme and is open to community-based organizations, cooperatives, agricultural and forestry producer organizations, associations, NGOs, and organizations led by women or young people operating in areas covered by the program.

The grants, ranging from $5,000 to $50,000, are intended to support projects such as tree planting, agroforestry, soil and water conservation, the establishment of community nurseries, biodiversity protection, and the development of income-generating activities related to ecosystem restoration.

The program is being implemented in six African countries: Togo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, and Tanzania.

In Togo, the new funding opportunity comes as the country intensifies efforts to meet its environmental commitments. Under the continental AFR100 initiative, Togolese authorities have pledged to restore 1.4 million hectares of degraded land.

Across Africa, the program aims to restore 100 million hectares by 2030. Applications are open until June 19, 2026.
