Former health insurance chief Justin Tchilabalo Pilante appointed interim head of Togo pension fund

(Togo First) - Justin Tchilabalo Pilante was named interim director general of Togo's Caisse de Retraite du Togo (CRT) on Tuesday. A presidential decree formally confirmed his appointment to lead the public pension institution.

Pilante, who previously served as director general of Institut national d'assurance maladie (INAM), succeeds Yawo Diapena Igneza as head of the institution responsible for managing public-sector pensions and retirement benefits.

With extensive experience in social protection, the new director general will be expected to ensure the continued delivery of pension services and maintain sound management of the fund's resources to strengthen the institution's efficiency and performance.

The appointment comes as social protection and retiree welfare become increasingly important policy priorities. The CRT remains a key pillar of Togo's national social security system.

According to its recently published statistical and financial report, the Caisse de Retraite du Togo paid out more than 52.5 billion CFA francs in benefits in 2025.
