Togo consumer prices edge higher in April, annual inflation steady at 0.1%

(Togo First) - Togo's average annual inflation held steady at 0.1% in April 2026, remaining at that level for a third consecutive month, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics, Economic and Demographic Studies (INSEED).

The harmonised consumer price index (HCPI) stood at 104.6 in April, rising 0.1% month-on-month and 0.7% year-on-year. The subdued pace of inflation keeps Togo within the West African Economic and Monetary Union’s (WAEMU) inflation target, even as several countries across the region continue to face stronger price pressures.

The largest annual price increases were recorded in housing, electricity, gas and fuel, which rose 9.8% year-on-year. Restaurants and accommodation services increased 2.7%, while healthcare and transport prices rose 1.7% and 0.9%, respectively.

By contrast, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages fell 1.7% from a year earlier, while information and communication costs declined by 3.4%.

Month-on-month, prices for several fresh produce items rose sharply, including yam (+20.7%), adémè leaves (+23.4%) and fresh okra (+17.9%). Street-sold petrol prices also increased by 5.9%.
