Togo Suspends Electronic Fiscal Stamps Over Technical Issues

(Togo First) - Togo has suspended the use of electronic fiscal stamps, known as e-timbres, for administrative procedures effective Monday, May 18, 2026. The decision was announced by the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR) in a press release seen by Togo First.

The tax authority attributed the suspension to "technical reasons affecting the operation of the platform for purchasing and using electronic fiscal stamps." Until now, users acquired e-timbres online through a dedicated platform at etimbre.otr.tg.

The OTR has not specified how long the suspension will last. In the meantime, the agency is directing users to physical fiscal stamps, which remain available at its usual points of sale and are still valid for the relevant administrative procedures.

The online purchase of fiscal stamps was launched in November 2024, marking a step forward in the digitalization of tax services. The initiative aimed to simplify administrative procedures, particularly for business operators, and to broaden access to services for all users.

The longer-term goal of the technology was to support a gradual transition toward the complete dematerialization of fiscal stamps, with objectives that included improving efficiency, strengthening transparency and modernizing tax administration. The current suspension represents a setback in that digital transformation process.
