Afreximbank eyes broader industrial investments in Togo

(Togo First) - The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) plans to expand its support for industrial development in Togo and broaden its involvement into new sectors, the lender said after a meeting on Tuesday in Lomé between President Faure Gnassingbé and Afreximbank board chairman George Elombi.

The pan-African lender is already financing, alongside other backers, the Adétikopé Industrial Platform (PIA). It now aims to expand into phosphate processing and power generation for industrial zones.

We discussed creating wealth through the local processing of Togolese commodities. We specifically addressed phosphates, power generation for industrial zones, as well as broader efforts to process raw materials locally in Africa and increase local added value,” Elombi said.

As part of the initiative, the bank plans to help Togo mobilize financing and technical partners to support its industrial development strategy.

Afreximbank’s activities in Togo extend beyond the industrial platform. In 2024, the bank arranged a 245 million euro financing package for Togolese broadcaster New World Télévision (NWTV) to acquire broadcasting rights for major sporting competitions across Africa.
