Togo, France reinforce judicial cooperation amid rising security concerns

(Togo First) - Togolese Justice and Human Rights Minister Pacôme Adjourouvi met his French counterpart Gérald Darmanin in Paris on Wednesday, May 13.

The two officials discussed strengthening judicial cooperation between Togo and France as security threats persist across the Sahel region and in northern Togo.

The talks focused on cooperation in areas including mutual legal assistance, intelligence sharing, international criminal cooperation, judicial training and the strengthening of Togo’s judicial institutions.

In the face of terrorism and foreign interference, France stands firmly by Togo’s side,” Darmanin said after the meeting.

For Lomé, the partnership is becoming increasingly strategic as authorities seek to strengthen the legal framework to combat terrorist financing, cross-border crime and radicalization, according to officials.

Cooperation between the two countries also covers extradition procedures, cross-border judicial requests and technical exchanges. France is additionally supporting efforts to modernize Togo’s judicial system through training programmes conducted with the École Nationale de la Magistrature, France’s national school for the judiciary.

The meeting came weeks after French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot visited Lomé, highlighting closer ties between the two countries amid growing regional security concerns.
