YAS Overtakes Canalbox in Togo’s 2025 Fibre Internet Rankings

(Togo First) - YAS Togo has overtaken Canalbox in the quality-of-experience (QoE) rankings for fixed fibre broadband (FTH), according to Arcep, Togo’s telecommunications and postal regulator.

The regulator’s annual assessment showed YAS Togo scoring 70,146 points against 65,754 for Canalbox, allowing the operator to take the top spot in the fixed internet market after Canalbox led the rankings in both 2023 and 2024.

YAS Togo outperformed its rival across most performance indicators. The operator recorded average download and upload speeds of 45 Mbps and 14.83 Mbps respectively, compared with 39.69 Mbps and 9.42 Mbps for Canalbox.

For web browsing, YAS Togo posted a 52.85% success rate, versus 48.31% for Canalbox. The operator also led in YouTube video streaming tests, with a success rate of 71.37% against 64.98% for its competitor.

Canalbox, however, retained an advantage on latency, recording an average response time of 12.95 milliseconds compared with 22.50 milliseconds for YAS Togo.

At the regional level, YAS Togo, a subsidiary of Axian Telecom, ranked fourth out of 18 operators assessed, while Canalbox Togo placed eighth.

Despite these results, Arcep highlighted what it described as a paradox: the quality of experience for fixed internet services continues to trail mobile internet, even though fibre networks are expected to provide higher speeds and a better overall user experience. Both Togolese mobile operators notably secured the top two positions in the 2025 nPerf QoE rankings for mobile networks in the UEMOA region.

While acknowledging progress made by internet service providers, the regulator urged operators to step up investments and deliver a more consistent user experience for subscribers.
