(Togo First) - More than 1 million people with disabilities in Togo will receive government support as part of efforts to improve their access to employment and economic opportunities. The initiative is being implemented through the Project to Support the Employment and Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Togo (PAISPHT), funded by the Togolese government with more than CFA 1 billion. The program includes the distribution of trade-specific business startup kits designed to promote the economic empowerment of beneficiaries and help them establish sustainable livelihoods.
The first kits were distributed earlier this week in Kara by the Minister of Social Action, Solidarity and the Promotion of Women, Martine Moni Sankaredja. The beneficiaries, selected from the Kara region, represent 25 different trades and occupations.
In addition to vocational equipment, the government also distributed 180 assistive devices to improve mobility and independence among recipients. The equipment includes crutches, white canes, wheelchairs and adapted tricycles.
According to the Ministry of Social Action, the initiative is intended to "enable each person to start their own business and achieve long-term economic independence."
The ceremony held in Kara marks the official launch of the project's nationwide rollout. Authorities plan to gradually extend the initiative to other regions of the country to strengthen the economic and social inclusion of people with disabilities.
Through the program, the government aims to promote equal opportunity, reduce barriers to employment and support the empowerment of persons with disabilities, in line with Togo's commitments to social protection and inclusion, authorities said.
