Togo: Business Registration Dips 3% in H1 2025, YoY
  • The total number of new businesses in Togo fell marginally in H1 2025, marking another drop compared to the same period in 2024 and 2023.
  • The trend is primarily attributed to a lower number of new enterprises from domestic entrepreneurs, while foreign-led ventures showed an uptick.

Over the first half of the year, a total of 7,747 businesses were registered at the Business Formality Center (CFE). This is 3% less than in H1 2024 (7,964 businesses were registered), and 7% less than in H1 2023 (8,283).

In detail, respectively 4,262 and 3,485 businesses were registered in Q1 and Q2 2025. Year-on-year, there were less registrations by nationals – they registered 6,195 businesses in H1 2025, down 7% from 6,615 in H1 2024.

Meanwhile, foreigners registered more businesses: 1,552 in H1 2025, against 1,349 in H1 2024, thus up 15%.

Regarding gender distribution, women started 2,118 of the new businesses, representing 27% of total registrations in H1 2025. Men dominated with 5,629 registrations or 73% of the total.

The downward curve in business created contrasts with ongoing efforts by the authorities to ease business creation. Such efforts include reducing the time and cost of setting up a business, digitizing the formalization procedures, and promoting entrepreneurship through various incentive mechanisms.
