Togo begins nationwide operation to speed up nationality certificate issuance

(Togo First) - Togo has launched a new mobile campaign to issue nationality certificates across the country’s prefectures, as authorities seek to expand access to civil administration services and support the transition to digital procedures. The operation, led by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in partnership with Canadian Bank Note (CBN), will run until July 9, 2026.

The initiative comes as Togo continues rolling out a digital platform for nationality certificate applications, accessible through the national public services portal since September 2024. Official figures show that 165,557 applications had been submitted by the end of March 2026, including 127,791 already processed.

Authorities say the campaign is intended to improve access to administrative services, particularly for citizens encountering difficulties with the online platform. Information and awareness sessions are also being organized in several prefectures to explain the procedures for obtaining digital nationality certificates.

In the Amou prefecture, for instance, an information session is scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Amlamé town hall. Applicants whose requests require corrections or in-person processing will receive assistance on-site, while new applications will also be accepted.

The operation builds on earlier outreach campaigns conducted by the Togolese government in recent years to speed up access to official documents such as birth certificates, national identity cards and nationality certificates.
