Plan International, EU Launch Savanes Kpaadu Project in Northern Togo, With CFA1.9B in Funding

(Togo First) - A new community resilience project focused on economic empowerment, civilian protection, violence prevention and access to basic rights has been launched in Togo's Savanes region.

Known as Savanes Kpaadu, the initiative was officially unveiled on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. It will be implemented over 18 months by Plan International and is backed by 1.9 billion CFA francs in funding provided with support from the European Union.

Several initiatives are already underway in the region to address challenges related to insecurity, violence, limited access to basic socioeconomic infrastructure, and employment opportunities for young people and women. The new project will focus particularly on education and economic empowerment for vulnerable communities.

Led by Plan International Togo, the project aims to strengthen the resilience of communities across the region. During its 18-month implementation period, 1,120 young people and women will receive support to develop small businesses and other income-generating ventures. In addition, 4,000 children will receive school kits, 800 people will be assisted in obtaining birth certificates and other civil registration documents, and 300 survivors of gender-based violence will receive ongoing support services.

"This project will help increase the capacity of our primary schools, further empower our mothers, our sisters and our young people, while strengthening the protection of children's rights," Savanes Regional Governor Affoh Atcha-Dédji said at the launch ceremony.

Savanes Kpaadu forms part of broader efforts by the Togolese government and its partners to support communities in the Savanes region, which has faced security threats since November 2021. Many of these initiatives are being rolled out under the Emergency Programme for the Savanes Region, which was established to strengthen the resilience of affected communities.
