Togo : In 2017, banks contributed signficantly to private firms’ investments

(Togo First) - Results of Togo's fifth edition of macroeconomic forecast survey were released on May 9, 2018.

The study for which 200 private firms were used as sample reveals that banks greatly contributed to private sector’s investments in 2017. Indeed, this contribution soared from 24.5% in 2016 to 44.7% in 2017.

Meanwhile funding of investments on equity slumped, from 72.9% in 2016 to 51.6 in 2017. As for investments themselves, they contracted also by 18.6% over the period.

According to the survey which assessed the firms’ turnover, this value grew by 2%. However, this performance is lower than 2016’s, knowingly +3.3%.

Out of all the 'Doing Business’ indicators, Property Registration is where Togo has improved the most since 2018. Indeed, after spending years in the lowest part of this ranking, the country now seeks to beat Rwanda which is the best performer on this index in Africa. To do so, Lomé has been introducing many reforms, with the latest batch implemented this year.
