CAGIA’s Agri-PME solution quite successful according to farmers of Plateaux region

(Togo First) - For the 2018-2019 agricultural season, the State granted farmers fertilizer subsidies, cutting cost of three bags to CFA27000, from CFA39000 during the past season. The subsidy is to benefit only the most vulnerable farmers.

At the end of the past week, the Agricultural Input Supply and Management Centre (CAGIA) informed farmers in the Plateaux region about the process that they need to go through to benefit from the subsidized fertilizers. On this occasion, CAGIA also presented the farmers the Agri-PME solution.

It is a solution that aims to guarantee transparency throughout the distribution of subsidized fertilizers and financial subsidies directly paid to targeted farmers. The solution has existed since 2016 and requires that a farmer willing to benefit from it lists him/herself as a vulnerable producer. This can be done via mobile.

According to testimonies collected so far, CAGIA’s initiative is highly successful. Indeed, farmers who have already registered have obtained their three fertilizer bags.

Agriculture let’s emphasize, contributes nearly 40% of Togo’s GDP and employs 70% of its active population.

After moving from the 133rd to 127th place under the 2020 Doing Business’ construction permit index, Togo intends to reiterate this feat in the coming edition of the global ranking. To this end, it has introduced this year multiple reforms.

Out of all the 'Doing Business’ indicators, Property Registration is where Togo has improved the most since 2018. Indeed, after spending years in the lowest part of this ranking, the country now seeks to beat Rwanda which is the best performer on this index in Africa. To do so, Lomé has been introducing many reforms, with the latest batch implemented this year.
