Togo Clears CFA326 Billion in Regional Debt in H1 2026

(Togo First) - Togo repaid nearly CFA326 billion in debt issued through the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) regional government securities market during the first half of 2026. The figures are based on data published by UMOA-Titres and compiled by Togo First.

The repayments included CFA218.76 billion in Treasury bonds (OATs) and CFA106.81 billion in Treasury bills (BATs).

Repayments were concentrated in the first three months of the year. Between January and March, the Treasury repaid nearly CFA195 billion. From April through June, repayments totaled about CFA131 billion. At the same time, the government continued tapping the regional debt market. According to Togo First's compilations, the country raised CFA214.5 billion through various debt issuances between January and June 2026.

The amount represents more than 46% of the government's annual financing target of CFA463.5 billion under its borrowing plan to finance the state's 2026 budget. The borrowing program is expected to continue in the third quarter. In July, Togo plans to raise an additional CFA55 billion on the WAEMU regional market. The proceeds will help finance the country's 2026 budget, which totals CFA2.751 trillion in both revenue and expenditure.
