Togo Steps Up Constitutional, Parliamentary Cooperation

(Togo First) - Togo advanced its institutional cooperation with Gabon and Chad this week through separate engagements aimed at strengthening constitutional and parliamentary institutions.

In Libreville, Togo’s Constitutional Court President Djobo-Babakane Coulibaly met with Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in the presence of his Gabonese counterpart, Dieudonné Aba’a Owono. Their discussions centered on strengthening cooperation between the two constitutional courts through regular consultations, the sharing of expertise and best practices, and capacity-building initiatives.

Both governments see the partnership as a way to modernize constitutional institutions and reinforce the rule of law, helping strengthen legal certainty and improve the investment climate.

Parliamentary Diplomacy Deepens

At the same time, Togo’s National Assembly President Komi Sélom Klassou visited Chad as guest of honor for the closing ceremony of the Chadian National Assembly’s first ordinary session of the year. The visit provided an opportunity for the two legislatures to reaffirm their commitment to stronger parliamentary cooperation through the sharing of legislative experience, capacity building, and the establishment of a permanent dialogue between the two parliaments.

Beyond the official ceremonies, Togolese officials emphasized the role of parliamentary and constitutional institutions in promoting peace, good governance, and regional integration.

In N’Djamena, Klassou also called for closer cooperation among African parliaments to harmonize legislative practices, foster institutional innovation, and boost Africa’s appeal as an investment destination.

This lead is more direct because it tells the reader immediately what happened—Togo carried out two institutional engagements with Gabon and Chad—instead of opening with the broader observation that the country is expanding cooperation.
