Togo Inducts 1,205 Civil Servants for Finance Ministry

(Togo First) - Togo officially inducted 1,205 new civil servants in Lomé on Wednesday, July 1. The recruits will join the Ministry of Finance and Budget and the Ministry of Economy and Strategic Foresight.

During the induction ceremony, Finance and Budget Minister Essowè Georges Barcola outlined the principles that should guide their careers in the public service. He cited integrity, honesty, impartiality, commitment to public service, and professional discretion.

According to the minister, managing public finances requires a high level of responsibility. He urged the new civil servants, who will work in areas involving the collection, management, and oversight of public resources, to make those values central to their daily work.

Specialized Skills for Public Finance Reform

The new recruits were selected through a nationwide civil service recruitment examination held in December 2024.

They represent a broad range of professions, including finance administrators, financial analysts, tax specialists, economists, statisticians, Treasury inspectors, public procurement specialists, and information systems experts. They will be gradually deployed across the strategic departments of the two ministries according to staffing requirements.

The recruitment drive is part of the government's strategy to strengthen state capacity. The 2026 budget is balanced at CFA2.751 trillion in both revenue and expenditure, up nearly 15% from the previous fiscal year, as the demands of managing and overseeing public finances continue to increase.
